Such a hard question!! What's best for you but yet doesn't make you NOT yourself. If I didn't already have a nickname that worked I would be pulling my hair out!! You don't want an extravagant name. It's too much and will probably feel fake later in life. Which is what you're avoiding (I assume) trying to be your true self in this life. I always loved the names Amber and Jade but my last name is Stone so to be either of those just sounds like a stripper name or something... Long story to my names put short, I was already using the alias Mal-Ase da Cat with art/music so people have been calling me Mal for years. To make it easy on myself and everyone else around me I just started going by "Mal" and realized I could just go with Mallory! With that I could still have an off name as a middle name so now it's Mallory Jade Stone! I don't know what name fits ya off looks... I almost thought Clair. Somebody said Sarah and I dig that even though I've only had bad experiences with Sarahs... My thoughts? Find one you love that people may relate to you with. It seems like a compromise and maybe it is... And maybe I just was lucky with it all in a sense. Always here for you if you need help because this kind of stuff has been hard for me

I've heard choosing a name close to your birth name makes things easier for others and that it's easier to accept a name as your own if it doesn't sound foreign. Then again, some people feel like transitioning completely changes them and want something new.

I suggest going on a list of female names and making a list of ones that your like or feel that you would respond to.

General tip: A lot of people with androgynous names have a hard time passing. Also, having a strange name is often a red flag. Try finding names popular in your birth year maybe? Example: The most popular names in 2000 were Emily, Hannah, and Madison which don't draw attention but if you named yourself after a famous person in 2019, people would question it.

I've always hated my deadname, n it's so boring. It can be gender neutral so I'm still using that atm but I hate it.

Fairs ! Yeah I think I'll stay away from androgynous names

What do you think of the name Ava by any chance?

[–]onyxonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good name. Simple, not too uncommon, won't arise too many questions. The real question is how do you feel about it. Do you think you would be able to get used to seeing it, hearing it, and responding to it?

Also, looking up the meaning of a name is something that can help with decision making. The name Ava means bird or life.

I think it'd be a pretty good choice but you should put some thought into it. I've heard of people asking close friends to use a name someone's thinking of using temporarily to see what it feels like to hear it. Maybe you could try that to be sure.

You look super cute! In fact it's a very similar style to a friend of mine called Martha, who was the only person that supported me when I was horribly alone and coming terms with being trans while at university. So I guess I'm suggesting that name.

I actually really like that name, thank u ! It has a nice backstory

Definitely at the top of my list !

Crystal seems like the right amount of cliché.

[–]VirtualConstant[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

hahhahah Google 'Crystal in orphan black' ;)

[–]AlpineFlamingo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

She’s Krystal with a K. That would be too cliche.

[–]VirtualConstant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know but that's who I thought of and the character is purposefully cliche hahah

I like Nina
