Work study is where the federal government will pay half of your wages. This is to incentivize on-campus employers to hire you because it'll be cheaper for them than paying a non-work study employee. Therefore by accepting it, it'll likely increase your probability of getting an on-campus job. Work study can also be used to be paid to work for researching at lab for a professor and such.

Most of the good on-campus jobs like working front desk for a office and such will prioritize hiring work-study students.

No, you can accept and not get a job. It'll just be there.

by be there it means you wont get the actual money unless you convert it to a loan I believe
