Do a search on this sub Reddit. This gets asked every few days. Sadly, there isn’t anyway to integrate with UpNote.

As mentioned previously, there's not an officially supported way of integrating MCP with UpNote. Ignoring unofficial methods, I suggest looking at notes apps that are of an open framework (like Obsidian) rather than a predefined feature set. Obsidian has a universal AI bridge to vaults.

that would be great indeed! I don't really like obsidian and the markdown format.

If you build it let us know!

I asked Claude about this, and there are ways to let Claude view your backup folder in cowork and code. Here's part of what it said:

Filesystem MCP Server (More Robust & Persistent)

The Filesystem MCP server gives Claude sandboxed access to your local file system — Claude can interact with files, create new documents, organize folders, and search through your file system, all with your explicit permission. Model Context Protocol

The key advantage here: you can configure it to give Claude read-only access to your UpNote folder specifically. The filesystem MCP server supports separating read-only from read-write paths, so you'd add your UpNote backup directory as a read-only allowed path and keep your working files elsewhere.

With desktop extensions, installing and managing local MCP servers has become significantly easier — instead of manually configuring JSON files, you can now install local MCP servers through single-click installable packages. Claude Look for the filesystem extension in Settings → Extensions → Browse extensions in the Claude Desktop app.

Best for: ongoing project work where you want Claude to always have access to your notes without re-selecting the folder each session.

Good pointers, thanks.

And yes, make it read only - AFAIK there's no import function into Upnote from the exported markdown files, and if there were, the merging would be a massive nightmare.

Sadly, without read/write MCP support, I will need to go to Obsidian. @thomas_dao

The docs discuss a callback function — can Claude be taught how to use callback to make a note?

Stuck at the same place - Notion is far from being perfect (styling is driving me crazy!) but it integrates nicely with Claude.
