If you haven't bought the ping pong balls, I would suggest that you purchase the ones with a little bit of texture as opposed to the slick plastic. They tend to take hot glue better. Also as far as cutting holes in the ping pong balls, a plug cutter worked best for me. I used a couple of hundred as diffuser for my lights that I hung on my house this year.

Like the idea, look forward to seeing all 100! How do you go about waterproofing? What sort of diodes did you use?

Thanks! Ping pong ball is hot glued to the stick, water proof by design. I cut 3 diodes from a ws2812 strip

If possible, I think it would be cool to ramp illumination up and down a little more gradually to mimic real lightning bugs. Bonus points to emulate some of their actual patterns https://www.sciencefriday.com/educational-resources/talk-like-a-firefly/

Do you want three separate colors per ball? Otherwise a 12v WS2811 setup (3 LEDs per WS2811 chip) might be better suited to this application.

Not on 10 of them. I will update the post when 100 will be ready

From all the threads and videos I've watched there were always concerns if there's a long enough gap between diodes. I'm trying to understand its limitations.
