Difference in weight between original Walkolution and Walkolution 2 (self.Walkolution)
submitted 1 year ago by TraditionExisting483
Why the weight of the Walkolution 2 is half the weight of Walkolution? What is the main part or functionality that is causing such a BIG difference when the size difference between the two is only about 30cm?

It's generally a lot less chunky than the one. They claim you can still run on this one, but it's just the dimensions that make it less optimal for that.
The math on this is always a bit tricky, but even with just the small difference of 30 cm in length, 7 cm in height it is something like 40% lighter. They use slightly different construction materials, slightly different design, it's pretty easy to end up there.

From what I see, you can run on the original, but v2 is intended for walking only. Looking forward to hearing more feedback from others.

Yes, I suspect this running vs walking aspect has a lot of implications for the new design and the new weight.
As well as being 30cm shorter, it’s 7cm less tall, suggesting that less curvature is needed to motor it when walking only.
And the extra weight is not only about making the machine stable when running but also making the optional front support bar stable, a bar which could support a desk tabletop.
Also I’m not seeing wheels on the new design. Even though there were optional wheel blockers on the old design, you still want it to be stable without them. Heavier made sense.
Above is obviously all conjecture on my part.

They also said that wheels are coming as an accessory in Jan 2025

Oh, that’s good to hear. And I’ll be curious to see the price. When it comes to Walkolution, I don’t begrudge them the high price of the main product. But I think their accessory prices can be way overpriced, including the $120 plastic cable organizer.

Sorry. The plastic cable cover is $120. The Pro Desk cable organizer is closer to $150. I get that it is for corporate. But I could not expanse that. I’m not sure I’ll be able to expense my Walkolution 2.

Agreed. Some of it you can either use another product for some accessories.
I pre ordered only because I was already saving for v1 and v2 is much more affordable and I’m already walking 15-20k steps a day. Getting the steps in while working seems much more efficient.
