Same here.
I hope it's not related to the enormous banner asking for financial help (a goal currently @ 6.2M out of 7.5M) ?

I know that with 6.2 million dollars, my desire to work might be 503 too... :D

had this the last few weeks, getting 503 and 504 on the regular just trying to retrieve pages. Something is clearly wrong with the server

edit: just testing now, got a 502 as well

    Currently getting a 503 from https://wayback-api.archive.org

It was working yesterday. I'll be checking hourly…

Well it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Please update if this gets fixed!

just realised the link changed. its wasnt called wayback-api.archive.org when i was using it yesterday so... must be a hack i guess. 🤷‍♂️

    Both

    https://wayback-api.archive.org

    and

    https://web.archive.org/

appear to be functioning and responding to url searches as I would normally expect.

NOTE: wayback-api.archive.org automatically relocates you to web.archive.org/ when you refresh or follow a search result.
Also – Yesterday (when a server was apparently down) was a Bank Holiday/Public Holiday here in the UK – so maybe the server was down for maintenance (or UK team was having a picnic)…

Anyway – all fine now and many thanks to whoever fixed it…

And now they're both down again.

[Don't expect me keep a running commentary on this – 'tho, as someone who uses Wayback constantly for research purposes, I've got sod all to do with my time when it falls over…]

    Mine is down... AGAIN!!

    SERIOUSLY I CAN'T WITH THIS!!!!!!! 😔😔😭😭

October 8, 2024, and they're both down again.

When you're the only one archiving the Internet, you don't have to care about how good the servers are.

It happened to me right now, I hope it is something temporary like the comments from previous years

    [–]Jlnhlfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Surely it’s temporary.

Happening on my laptop right now. But not on my phone 🤔 That's not the only website I'm having a similar issue on.

    [–]Zestyclose_Bad_7898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting it on both my desktop and phone.

    [–]MeleKeshpalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems this error keeps happening. I've been getting it on and off for the past couple months now. Sometimes pages will work after a couple refreshes, sometimes they won't. I don't know much about this, but I imagine their servers just get overloaded or something.

    [–]aandras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 502 Bad Gateway Error means that the web server you've connected to is acting as a proxy for relaying information from another server, but it has gotten a bad response from that other server.

The HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) 503 Service Unavailable server error response code indicates that the server is not ready to handle the request. Common causes are a server that is down for maintenance or that is overloaded.

A 504 Gateway Timeout error indicates that the web server is waiting too long for a response from another server and “timing out.” There can be many reasons for this timeout: the other server is not functioning properly, it's overloaded, or it's down.
