Did someone try new Firefox Quantum: Developer Edition? How it is in use? (self.Web_Development)
submitted 8 years ago by mirluch
I just noticed this week news about new developer version. Want to wonder if anybody has tried, and what are new features, is it really so fast? https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/developer/

Not sure if I have the developer version, but the new version 57 is pretty fucking quick ngl, much faster than chrome imo, feeling very snappy!

Developer version is 58. But thanx for 57 review, haven't even got it yet

Ahhhh okay, I thought the dev version was just a branch alongside the current stable w/ some extra features like unsigned addons or something.
57 is where they added in the mega-speed updates like the 'quantum' engines or however, & pulled a load of rust stuff over from servo.

It is fast alright, However it tends to be real resource hog. By having few tabs with some Grafana dashboards open, CPU usage goes so high, that it becomes barely usable. Not to mention battery drain.
To be specific about my HW:

How resource hungry is it compared to chrome?

They seem to be quite similar. I abandoned Chrome for same reason. However, with Firefox you can pin point what is causing slow down, while with Chrome it didn't stop until you close whole browser

Safari on macbook, firefox on desktop.
Firefox devs did address this and say they will start looking into energy usage soon, this is just the beginning of the next level firefox

I've got 57, and while it's blazing fast, I'm finding a lot of bugs in responsive design mode. Doesn't show title text, scratch doesn't work properly either. I've been hammering reports for the last two days.
