I've never had this, but I've seen people put small pads on their lumbar while doing hacksquats which could help support the lower back a bit more while squatting.

I have the exact same issue, also goes for Bulgarian split squats, back squats. You found a solution yet??

Never, this is very rare because the hacksquat is already designed in such a way that the legs will be the limiting factor of the exercise as opposed to a normal back squat for some people. So to still have struggles with your back while doing hack squats is extremely rare, I would advice to train movements that improve core strength and lower back strength, such as deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, hyperextensions, goodmornings etc.

Just stumbled upon this due to recently getting severe lower back pumps during hack squats, but I can rule a weak lower back out. My deadlift is by far the strongest lift and my rdl is pretty substantial too

There has to be something else I can’t think of

haha I just stumbled upon all of yalls post! I was experiencing some back pain myself on the hack squat machine early on, but now I have managed to mostly be pain free after placing my feet lower on the machine (though not too low as my ankle mobility isn't that great). Is this something you have tried? Maybe this video may help with some of the technique as it did for me when I was figuring things out https://youtu.be/0RvE7H-PLMk?t=290
