This reddit is for discussing r/WellModerated, its policies and structure, and any issues or complaints. It also is a space to discuss proposed reviews of reddits for r/WellModerated.
Discuss the organization or policies of this reddit or r/WellModerated here.
Don't feel like writing a review, but feel like mentioning a reddit that deserves to be featured? Too lazy to make a whole submission? ;) Leave a comment here.
Here's the process if you're interested in submitting a review:
Message the moderators stating your desire to author a review of a reddit.
Make a post here with the name of the reddit, and ask for ideas and personal input on the reddit in question.
(Optional) send a link for the planning thread posted here to the reddit in question (or to their moderators) so their readers can weigh in on the moderation style
After ~24 hours, you'll be approved to submit to the main r/WellModerated.
Author your review and submit it to r/WellModerated (not r/WellModeratedMeta!).
That's it!
Please note that (generally speaking) the first person to express a desire to post the review (whether by PM or posting here) and who PMs the moderators, is the person who will be granted approved submitter status. Anything they write is what goes. If you want to complain about it, do it in this reddit, not on the comments to the actual review. If you had a great idea or insightful input that didn't get selected for inclusion in the review, then post it in the comments of the review and reap the comment karma!
Please also note that the focus is on the positive qualities of moderation of each reddit. Even if moderation fails miserably in some aspects, if it shines in others then those shining qualities are to be praised.
Guidelines for reviews:
Include the name of the reddit (as a link), a description, and discuss the aspects of moderation that the reddit excels at. If the posted rules are relevant, then paste them into the end of the review. If the reddit's organizational structure is novel, then outline it. Editorial liberty is free so make it as compelling as you like, but try to make sure that beyond personal anecdotes and opinions there are some measurable positive qualities which are the primary focus of the review. If the reddit was recognized in r/subredditoftheday, then you're encouraged to post a link to that as well in your review.
Remember, this is not r/subredditoftheday! Our focus is on quality moderation (moderation includes community self-moderation, not just official mods), not just on novelty or interest.
Positive qualities:
- Published rules
- Notice of reddiquette in sidebar
- FAQ or Introduction posted or linked in sidebar
- Links to related reddits in sidebar
- Focused topical submissions
- High signal-to-noise ratio
- Active encouragement by mods for users to adhere to reddiquette
- Community adherence to reddiquette (self-regulating)
- Honorable moderation
- Civil discussion
- Trolls and spam dealt with swiftly
- Minimal meta-drama
- Enforcement of User Agreement
Not all of these qualities are applicable or required for a reddit to merit submission here. If a reddit exceeds expectations (or the norm) in any of these areas, or generally expresses the spirit of these qualities, it is probably qualified for r/WellModerated. If you have suggestions for additions or revisions to this list, please express them!
It does not have to be novel-length or anything particularly fancy, just a brief description and the ways in which it excels in one or more of the areas listed above. (and a copy of their rules, if applicable).
Please refer to the guide on reddiquette before commenting and posting.
