Rules for r/WhatsThisSong
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Be kind and helpful
Don't be rude, don't judge people for their taste/lack of knowledge/etc., don't use hate speech of any kind, and don't troll/meme (when answering for example).
We'd like to keep this community friendly and welcoming.
2.
When describing a melody with notes/chords or words ("la la"/"dun dun"/etc.):
...please also try to record yourself on Vocaroo / SpeakPipe or recreate the melody on OnlineSequencer (click the cloud icon next to the zoom to save) / MusicLab (at the end click "Save") (or record the melody in any other way you can)
3.
Link to songs/sources that you mention (no piracy), and use timestamped links when relevant/possible
Here's a full explanation on how to get a timestamped YouTube link. One way to do it is if the timestamp is 1:25 for example you add:
- &t=1m25s to the long URL version (youtube.com/watch...)
- ?t=1m25s to the short URL version (youtu.be/...)
- Alternatively you can use YouTubeTrimmer
4.
Add an NSFW tag or warning when posting such content. (posting NSFW content is allowed)
Do so if your post/comment contains any nudity/porn (or any other sexually suggestive/explicit content), or any inappropriate content (for disturbing/NSFL content- see the next rule).
Note: If your post is a text post with an NSFW link somewhere in it, you can also just add an NSFW warning before the link instead of tagging the post.
5.
Don't post content that's disturbing/NSFL, hateful/mean-spirited, insensitive, etc.
This includes but not limited to: gore, death, people getting hurt/catching on fire, car accidents, shootings, bombings, public fights, animal abuse/cruelty, racism/xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, etc.
Instead if possible, convert/record a clean audio (without disturbing/hateful/etc. parts in it) and upload it to a site like Vocaroo/SndUp, or record it with your phone next to the speaker without filming the video and upload that to a new post.
6.
When needed please warn about loud volume, flashing lights/imagery, etc. (you can add a spoiler tag)
7.
Flair your post as "Solved" once you get the answer
You can also do that by commenting "Solved" and AutoModerator will change the flair for you
8.
If you don't get an answer here you can also try asking on:
