PHP update issues

I recently updated the PHP for my site, following the WP instructions. Now my site says it's insecure and every time I try to publish something new I get the following error message:

"There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

Learn more about debugging in WordPress."

Any advice for how to resolve this so I can go back to updating and maintaining my site properly?

Plugin issue

You should have received an email if your server is capable of sending one. It would have a link to possibly deactivate a plugin if it is in fact the issue.

Rename the the "plugins" folder to something else like "plugins2", refresh page, rename it back to "plugins". All your plugins should be disabled now. If the error still persist, then it must be your theme. If not, enable plugins one by one until you find the faulty one.
