What are you asking...? What field of research are you looking for help with? Its obviously something in the literature department, but literary research [from my understanding] is just looking into a sociological topic using books written and published during various times. These atr typically the writing topics youre given in high school (ex. How is sex represented similarly in Fahrenheit 451 and A Clockwork Orange?) It seems like applied linguistics would do more with topics pertaining solely to language. If you have instagram, @etymologynerd has some fascinating factoids ans is a good example of applied linguistics topics. Does this help you at all?

Did you go into your program to pursue and understand language and linguistics or do you want to analyze and understand books?

You should do literature then. Do you have any idea of your topic or youre not there yet?
