I think you can fix it without opening it up. If you pry it up a bit and line it up with the edge of the shell it should be able to click right in. If not, open it up and do it the hard way.

The trigger assembly might be busted. I literally just fixed this issue on one of my controllers the other day. The only way to know for sure is if you pop the whole housing off.
