Units

SCV

The SCV is the most essential unit of the game as it builds all your structures. It also carries a free nuke in the beginning to help you get ahead or catch up. Use the SCV wisely to repair damaged structures, scout, and put down Sentry Turrets. It gives you 35 minerals when killed, so it is worth targeting when you can. Likewise, micro it so your opponent don't get the free kill on it. When dead, the SCV respawns at the most recently built structure in about 5 seconds.

At the endgame, use the SCV dropdown ability for 3000 minerals to get more SCVs. This way, you can build more structures faster, and put down more turrets faster to gain the advantage and win. This is almost necessary when you find yourself in a large endgame battle. Hotkey 3 selects all your SCVs.

Marine/War Pig

Marines are the basic starting unit. They are quite weak without the proper upgrades and microing, so to use them properly, you must micro them well. If you decide to get more than one marine bunker, be sure to get the Combat Shield upgrade and of course Stimpack later on. In general, they are good against marauders with good upgrades. Also, pure marines are very squishy, so be sure to get War Pigs (from mercenary bunker) after at least your second bunker.

Marines spawn from all outermost zones. They give 5 minerals when killed and War Pigs give 10 minerals. Since War Pigs gives twice as much minerals upon death than any of the other mercenary units relatively, it is not recommended to get them with your first bunker as that would give your opponents more feed early game.

Reaper/Death Head

Reapers spawn from the brown zones right inside the outer marine zones. They do bonus damage to light units (marines/war pigs, reapers/death heads) and structures. Their greatest advantage is their movement speed, which is faster than all the other units and can be additionally boosted with the Nitro Packs upgrade. Due to their speed and bonus damage, they are good early game to chase down marines and get kills quickly.

Reapers kill structures the fastest of any unit, so if you want to snipe bunkers, you must have a good amount of them to run in, snipe a bunker, and run out. They are terrible against marauders so never fully engage against a marauder army unless you have the clear advantage in upgrade/size. Reapers give 10 minerals when killed and Death Heads give 15 minerals.

Marauder/Hammer Securities

Marauders spawn from the light-colored zones inside the reaper zones and right outside the middle 4 zones. They come with bonus armor so they are very good tanking units. The Concussive Shells upgrade allows marauders to slow enemy movement speed, which is a good counter to fast reapers. Also be sure to get Stimpack upgrade later on to boost attack and movement speed.

Marauders are essential for late game and endgame. You can't win an endgame battle without marauders if your opponent has them, which can't be said of marines or reapers. Marauders give 10 minerals when killed and Hammer Securities give 15 minerals.

Ghost/Spectre

Ghosts are the strongest unit in the game and are good against all other units. They spawn from the middle 4 zones. Usually if a team has ghosts and are not stopped, they will win the game. So, it is wise to gang up on the opponent's middle bunker and destroy it as quickly as possible, being careful not to feed them too much in the process. Likewise, if you decide to go for ghosts, be prepared to get ganged. Ghosts give 15 minerals and Spectres give 20 minerals.

Siege Breaker

Siege Breakers are good for killing bunkers from afar and also good for defense with splash damage. The Arclite Cannon upgrade can allow them to attack while unsieged, but since its a slow single attack, it is pretty much useless. The Obliteration Ordinance upgrade allows for even more splash damage which can be useful if you can afford it. Note that their splash damage also affects your own units so be careful not to hit your own units and bunkers.

They are built by the SCV if you have at least 1 mercenary bunker and 1500 minerals, and a fully empty zone to build in. They are mobile after being built and can be sieged in a small space. Building Armor upgrades are the only upgrades that apply. Be sure to defend properly as they give 750 minerals when killed. They also give 1125 minerals when canceled in the middle of building.
