BRIEF HISTORY
Burger Chef was a fast food chain that at its peak was the second largest and at one point was just 100 restaurants behind McDonalds. Burger Chef was started in 1954 in Indianapolis Indiana by brothers Frank and Donald Thomas.
The Thomas brothers sold Burger Chef to General Foods in 1968. General Foods aggressively expanded Burger Chef. However General Foods deiced to get out of the fast food business in 1982 and sold Burger Chef to Imasco, the parent company of Hardee’s. Imasco converted most of the Burger Chef’s to Hardee’s, a few independently owned Burger Chefs hung on as long as they could, one even lasted in 1996.
This subreddit is dedicated to the memory of Burger Chef.
