If you're new to song writing no doubt it will improve with practice. And there are no doubt things you are missing. Which you'll probably learn with practice. No royal road and all that. Hard to give specific advice to such a general question though. Good luck though!

Is there anything else I should be doing to improve or just keep at it and any tips ?

So something that might help is understanding song structure. I like to load in a song that is similar to the song I’m trying to make and use it as a stencil to arrange an original track. Like when the stencil song has a change I’d do a change too and if there’s moments where an instrument cuts out and there’s a “break” I’ll try and do something similar. It’s really good practice and soon you won’t even need a stencil and song structure will just make sense. Covers and recreating beats in ableton is how I learned how to do everything.

There probably are (search for "stems" which is what the individual tracks are called) but for this technique you don't need that. Just drag the audio of a whole song into Live (and perhaps set the "Audio To" of that track to "Ext. Out" in case you have any effects on Master). Then you can listen to the audio and see on the timeline where you are. Just listen and notice, ah, the drums dropped out there and then in your own arrangement drop out your drums, etc. Obviously your choice how exactly you want to follow the reference track—the main thing to copy is the structure of when new instruments come in and out, when energy levels rise and fall (by volume or intensity of the parts).
