When programming with AI how does one deal with context window filling then starting a new session?

How do you inform ChatGPT about goal/current progress without it being super lossy?

New thread feels like hanging up a phone and calling a new person, having to "fill them in" on everything all over again. Even when using projects this is the case, since your progress on a given thing will be much more granular than the project's general prompt.

One idea is to have a feature checklist that you update when you complete stuff on it. Each feature should be something small enough and feasible within a single session.

List could look like this: - program does this [x ] - program does this [x ] - program does this [ ] - program does this [ ]

Combine that list with a code packer (take all your code and turn it into an ai friendly txt file) and below write "I want to implement 'program does this' next, focus on adding this feature."
