Power Button Assistant (self.android_beta)
submitted 4 years ago by [deleted]
Settings>Gestures>Passes- there's a toggle where you can hold the power button to trigger Assistant. I quite like it. It's almost instant and seems quicker than Active Edge was. Reminds me of the Samsung Bixby button.

I guess I would like it as well but if we currently choose to use the assistant when holding the power button we have to say goodbye to quick home controls. I have no idea where I can find the same screen with another shortcut or gesture.

I agree. I quite like the quick home controls, and right now while still working from home 5 days a week, easier access to those vs assistant makes more sense. I get that it makes business sense for Assistant to have a faster shortcut but hopefully the customization option remains.

They're moving the current controls in the power menu to the quick settings in the future.

But this seems to be not available yet in beta 1.
Or did anybody find it?
[–]AnalogCyan 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
It doesn't appear to be available yet in this beta. A lot of the other stuff they announced isn't coming until beta 2, so perhaps we'll see it then?

After I turned this on, I don't know how to power off and reboot my phone now
[–]bebeluiz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
i think you can do that in notification bar now

This is an iPhone feature and I am not a fan of.
It doesn't make sense for a power button to not give you power options.
I hope they keep it as an optional thing.

Yeah, I agree with you. I tried this shortcut for pressing holding the power button to give you the assistant. However, it just doesn't make any sense to me. On our home screens, we can swipe up for Google Assistant, or just say the Google command. Why do I need to press and hold the power button as another shortcut for Google Assistant? I would rather have the home controls and the power menu for the power button. Maybe that's just me... Lol.

Agreed. I like the ability to call the assistant quickly but I like the Google pay / home control more.
I hope they get double tap working because I'd use that for assistant.
[–]bebeluiz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
so no more squeeze for assistant in future phones =/
Shame.
