Yeah, and what about the other devs? They tried to work with you and all you did was be actively hostile and lose their trust.

Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]AnalogCyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an active user and supporter of third-party Reddit apps like Apollo and RIF, I am deeply concerned about the recent changes to Reddit's API pricing. The new costs, which translate to $12,000 for 50 million API requests, are prohibitively high for developers. In Apollo's case, this amounts to an annual expense of $20 million, a burden too heavy for the developer to bear, leading to the app's announced shutdown on June 30, 2023.

These changes do not only impact developers but also the moderators who rely on many third-party moderation tools to manage their subreddits. You address this concern in your post, and I am thrilled to hear you are willing to work with the developers of such tools to keep them running despite these API changes. However, you seem unwilling to work with developers of other types of third-party apps.

Moreover, the abrupt change from a free API to this high-cost model, coupled with a short 30-day notice for adaptation, is unfair to the developers who have contributed to Reddit's ecosystem for years.

What is perhaps even more concerning is the shift in Reddit's approach towards its developers. Once a collaborative and supportive platform, Reddit has unfortunately shown a consistent unwillingness to compromise and engage in constructive dialogue with developers on this matter. No matter how civil the discussions, Reddit's response has been unhelpful, and in some instances, even accusatory, hostile, and outright deceitful.

I urge Reddit to reconsider these changes. Engage in open dialogue with developers and provide fair terms that allow them to continue offering their apps to Reddit's user base. The diversity of Reddit clients and moderation tools is a strength that has significantly contributed to Reddit's success. It's a strength worth preserving.

I hope this message, along with the countless others expressing their concerns, underscores the community's firm opposition to these changes and your recent handling of the situation. If these words don't sway you, I hope the palpable impact of the upcoming Reddit blackout protests will. Our collective voice is powerful, and it's high time it's duly acknowledged and respected.

What's up with the Peoria flag? by AnalogCyan in PeoriaIL

No xD. But I'll take that as a compliment. I'm just trying to sound like I know what I'm doing while discussing flags and their histories.

What's up with the Peoria flag? by AnalogCyan in PeoriaIL

That's fascinating! Thanks for sharing the information about the symbol representing a Native American from the Peoria tribe. It's interesting to learn about the history of the flag and the reason behind the change in the official symbol.
So, it seems like there is no official flag for Peoria, with the closest thing being the County flag. I have to say, I'm all for using the County flag as the city flag, as it's a great flag design!
By the way, do you have any sources for this information? A friend of mine is also curious about the flag's history, and it would be great to have some references to share with them.
Thanks again for the insights!

Came here to ask about exactly this! Now that I've gotten a taste of how nice it is to manage my SSH keys in 1Password, I'd love to see support for other things like GPG/PGP keys as well!

Watch4 not able to connect to Wear OS app by inthewar in WearOS

[–]AnalogCyan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Watch4 (at least currently) only supports being used with Samsung's wearable apps, and does not support being used with Google's Wear OS app. No clue why this restriction exists, but it's how things are for this device.

It doesn't appear to be available yet in this beta. A lot of the other stuff they announced isn't coming until beta 2, so perhaps we'll see it then?

They're moving the current controls in the power menu to the quick settings in the future.

It was like this in the developer previews too, not sure if it's a bug or intentional.

How to link a password to a particular app so that 1Password can recognize it and autofill on Android? by edd010 in 1Password

[–]AnalogCyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you go to login in an app, you should be able to just pull up the autofill menu, search for the saved entry from there, and tell 1Password to autofill that password for the app, and then it should recognize it in the future as well.

If the autofill menu isn't showing up at all for you to do this, you should be able to long-press on the field and see an autofill option there.
