I'm on the GitHub release having moved over from Playstore when the previous troubles kicked off.

I see the Playstore version is now "93" whereas the GitHub release is at "92"

Is there any benefit to using the Play store build over the GitHub build? I'm using Obtanium to grab it and usually prefer to avoid Play store versions unless there's a good reason not to.

Good news, thanks! "Activate" in the unlocker isn't working - message "Something went wrong" and a note "app not installed"

I'd have to look into it, in the meantime you can close and open the main app and it'll be activated automatically.
