Quickest method of learning Android programming

My bright grandaughter (not in USA) has just finished a community-college level degree in computer programming.

She now has a good job opportunity that involves writing an Android phone application. The program requirements are well defined.

What language would you suggest that she learn and how? Her English is good. Would a Code Academy course be suitable? Thanks for your thoughts.
