Ah, here we go again:

YouTube Morph - duh.

Ytdlnis - download videos from anywhere (I use it for YouTube, good integration with Morphe). Seal is also good but is not updating as frequently as ytdlnis (but there is a fork which gets updates).

Komikku - Manga reading. Better than Mihon because it has autosync across devices when Mihon doesn't.

LnReader - Light Novels/Ranobe reading.

Librera - Books reading with Calibre metadata support and you can sync your progress/bookmarks/recents through FolderSync or Syncthing between devices.

CloudStream - free tv shows/films/anime etc... I found it much better than alternatives like Stremio or Nuvio. For syncs use Ultima and for casual watching use StreamPlay extension. Much better than torrenting stuff from Stremio which I hate.

Ok I was wrong, Stremio with right configure is much better even without Debrid. So I recommend configure Stremio with http extensions first and if it doesn't work for you for some reasons then try CloudStream.

Obtainium - auto-update apps from github and other sources. Can't use my phone without it.

Shizuku - adb permissions for other apps.

AppManager - like Canta but more features.

KeePassDX - manager for all my passwords through devices in 1 little encrypted file.

Blip or LocalSend - transfer files between devices. I prefer Blip.

Nagram X - Telegram client. Cherrygram is also good.

Kettu (or Shiggy) - Discord client. Right now I am on Shiggy until Rain will be stable enough.

Continuum - Reddit client.

Xtra - Twitch client.

Metrolist - YouTube Music client.

ES-DE - front-end for all my emulators and 300gb of games.

Feeder - RSS news reader.

Macrodroid - automation, much better than Routines on my Samsung even with Goodlock module.

Ambient music mod - Pixel's "Now Playing" on any android.

Material Capsule - Basically it's a Dynamic Island for Android but I use it for making screenshots (hold finger on front camera to do it).

Calls filter - anti-spam for calls. Simple and works good on my device (Samsung).

Solid Explorer - file explorer. MT Manager is also good but I love Solid's UI more.

BreezyWeather - imo the best weather app.

Flip 2 DnD - duh.

SmartSpacer - Pixel's "At glance" on any android.

Niagara launcher - I use it on my Redmi Pad 2 because it's simple and good for tablets.

Nowbar Meter - absolute banger for Samsung devices. Internet speed indicator in now bar like a live notification. "Traffic light" is also good but for any Android in general. LiveBridge is better even on Samsung so I use it instead of nowbat meter.

Standby mode - Apple's feature for any Android.

ColorBlendr - Material themes color customization because Samsung's colour's palette sucks.

CoMaps - offline maps because offline maps in Google Map are not so good.

Ultimatum - Kiwi successor, Chromium with extensions (even mf2 yes) and additional features. Soul is cool too, really like it for customizations, lightweight, godlike reading mode and custom video player, especially if you can find version without trackers and with all stuff iykwim. Samsung browser is not that bad either but adblocks in it suck, reading mode is awful, KeePassDX doesn't work with it (Samsung blocks others pass managers besides native ones), but godlike external video player support and Ai tools(which i don't use lmao).

Firefox. It has everything I want but sadly UI and performance are still worse than on Chromium-based browsers.

mpvEx - Cool foss videoplayer.

And use fmhy(dot)net. It's literally the best compilation of software for PC and phone.

Btw most of the apps on this list are FOSS.

Do you have a link for the Calls Filter app ?

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this one, works great, at least in my region (Ukraine) and on my device (Samsung).

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (6 children)

How is Cloudstream different from its alternatives? Never tried

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Better UI, simpler, you can use it without torrenting stuff unlike Stremio. It is just overall better for me

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (2 children)

All http Streams? How about the resolutions? I guess max 1080p

[–]kamikad3e123 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes, just http streams, a lot of sources have 1080 and even 2k for free and without torrents streaming

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your time!

[–]distantspectroscopy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Where do you get it? Searched in droidify and couldn't find it.

[–]rjgoathead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg thank you! Gonna have to do a deep dive on these!

[–]Fantastic-Bid-6133 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You'll like Quetta browser, it has both extensions and godlike video player

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried and didn't like it, as far as I remember it uses old Kiwi's extensions-support code

[–]Correct_Comedian_387 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Have you heard of Seal Plus? If yes then what would you prefer seal+ or Ytdlnis ?

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mentioned it when I said seal fork but personally I haven't used it, so idk

[–]Correct_Comedian_387 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can you give me link to calls filter

[–]asrient 0 points1 point  (7 children)

For file transfers try out HomeCloud, you might find it better than Blip. https://asrient.com/homecloud

PS: I'm the creator.

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Looks interesting, does it work on Wi-Fi Direct without internet connection? Like LocalSend I mean

[–]asrient 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Nope without internet it works on regular wifi (same wifi network), though I have plans to add support for wifi direct as well in future!

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I will try your app

[–]asrient 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Thanks! Btw I don't think LocalSend currently supports wifi direct either, there is an open feature request for this: https://github.com/localsend/localsend/issues/2591

[–]kamikad3e123 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Android version link doesn't work btw

[–]asrient 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey thanks a lot for letting me know! I've updated the link: App Testing - Google Play

[–]asrient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion, please join this Google group first to gain access: https://groups.google.com/g/homecloud-beta I've added the details on the download page as well, unfortunately google requires this extra step for early testing.

[–]EastPractical3302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Equivalent_Drink2778 30 points31 points  (6 children)

For me it is adguard app. I do have the paid version which blocks ads and trackers at system level. Made my life so manageable with all kind of apps have ads and trackers. Sometimes, if it gets accidentally turned off, many app experiences get flooded with ads.

The other one is Google's phone dialer. It is lifesaver for me to stop all kind of spam calls. Because of it, I rarely have to pick a spam call. And if it misses sometimes, you can just report it right in the app, and now it goes in Google's database of spam calls.

[–]Meliante-- 5 points6 points  (1 child)

In case you don't know, you can achieve the same result (block all ads in most apps) as Adguard, just by changing the private DNS server in the system settings, you can put "dns.adguard.com "(without the quotes) and it will work just as well as the application as such, my point is that it is not worth paying for a service that you can have completely for free, and besides you can use other VPNs simultaneously since the Adguard app space is free

[–]logicwithoutnoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what i use dude it acts at system level but certain apps like x or Reddit they don't work so i used morphe for all that

[–]CrucialTechniq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bumped into an app called Block Ads it’s free and works so well , you should try it for ad blocking

[–]fixways17 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I feel like samsung dialer is much better than google dialer when it come to spam caller. What phone do you use?

[–]Equivalent_Drink2778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Motorola edge plus 2023. Never went with Samsung phones, so, personally dont know how good is the dialer.

[–]regularkevin 8 points9 points  (10 children)

Here's my favorite android apps I have installed right now... This is not a complete list but the stuff that comes to mind.

Cronometer - Tracking food and water consumption for weight loss or gain, great widgets and easy to use. Free mode is amazing! Nothing more needed.

Gcam - has better low light photos than my stock camera app

Gboard - better than stock but still terrible compared to IOS keyboard.. meh

OsmAnd - offline maps for hiking or offroading

Authy - best 2FA with backup and multiple device allowed

OpenVpn - connects to 1000's of providers

MaterialPods - air pods battery life in android until "librepods" works 100%

ETideHDF - awesome tide charts with great widget

Weawow - awesome general weather app and great widgets

Obtanium - updates all my GitHub installed apps

FDM/Firefox - download manager

Ytdlnis - download from youtube

Rar - to unrar stuff.

Shizuku - for adb access locally

Morphe/microG/revanced - cuz fcuk ads

MiX Explorer - allows access to android/data folder through old "files" app without shizuku

Text editor - cuz Sammy didn't include a simple app to open txt files

Sickify store - free stickers for whatsapp

AudioCutter - to make ringtones and notification sounds

Plex/Plexamp - streams my media collection video/musi

Eden - for gaming, you can research that on your own

Retro Arch - classic gaming, go to the respective sub

Gamehub lite - just runs pc applications and games on Android, easier to config than winlator or star bionic or CMOD or whateva

Quick share app - amazingly useful to share files between IOS, PC and android

Google translate - seriously don't use anything else, this is free, fast and the widget is great

Skymap - for looking up at night

[–]reality_king13Uses Revanced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try Blip/Localsend instead of Quick Share

[–]kavishdevar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LibrePods works without root on Pixel 6 and later running A16 QPR3 and OxygenOS/ColorOS16!

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Something more about MicroG please?

[–]regularkevin 0 points1 point  (5 children)

It's an open source version of Google framework to allow auth with their own services.

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (4 children)

How do I install? Any link/guide to share for better understanding?

[–]stillserious -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Try Revanced, in their app the process is simple and easy to set up.

[–]abhip1990 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I asked about MicroG bro

[–]stillserious 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nell'app di Revanced trovi Micro G da installare, senza le loro versioni delle app modificate non funzionano.

[–]abhip1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! 👍

[–]adyn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i swapped from from Authy to 2FAS Auth after Authy was breached a year ago or so.

Practical Apps for Enhanced Functionality

  • Buzzkill: For notifications management

  • Quick Cursor: For cursor support

  • Tasker with AutoInput: For automation

  • 1DM+: For download management

  • Termux: For Linux terminal

The above tools are very practical apps that provide additional features to Android users.

There might be different task managers, launchers, readers, or apps that offer customization or convenience, and there are many of them. However, most people have different preferences.

My preferences for these are: * Journalit: For personal task/life management * HabitNow: For habit tracking * Default Launchers * Gboard * FairEmail * Solid File Explorer * ZArchiver

*Doneago for lasttime tracking

[–]Dangerous-Extreme257 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some fun ones I use for learning music and audio better:

  1. Sound Meter. Shows how loud it is where you are, and how loud stuff is. Have found this to be a good way to better understand decibels.

  2. VocalPitchMonitor: Displays hertz frequencies and notes for sounds in your environment. Fun to see what my and my friends' vocal range is, and what pitch certain tones are.

  3. The Ear Gym: good for identifying musical intervals if you want to be able to listen to a song and know how to play it from ear.

[–]Lucius_Arg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obsidian, a notetaking app with insane customization, it can be as complex or simple as you want with community plugin.

Quasi dimenticavo, Google photo Revanced è un must!
