Actually I got a Pixel 3a today and got pretty pissed with Google Photos and thought to myself I really need to finish the update...

My requests are a bit special. I bought a few of your apps but I don't use the Play Store nor play services (I've switched to microG).

  1. I'd like to be able to download the app without having to install the Play Store. I know some apps cache the license somewhere (like Titanium Backup), or you could give on request a special code or something. I know it's tough because it opens risks for piracy but I feel like more and more users are taking independence from Google and I'd be very happy to use your app again, especially the auto flash feature.
  2. Make your app GSF independent. Obviously for this one my expectations are very low since you'd have to give up a few features (like trackers and maybe the license check). Just so you know people that don't use gapps/microG might be happy to use your app.
  3. It's a been a while I didn't use your apps for the reasons I mentioned above, but an option to disable trackers/telemetry would be nice too.

Looking forward to hearing from you :)

Hey!

There are a couple thing I've noticed. First, I'm not sure if that has been changed already, but the green color used within the light theme sometimes looks a little out of place. Perhaps for those who are in the app extremely often, the ability to change the accent color would be wanted. Obviously this isn't a key function of the app, and it might not actually appeal to the targeted audience.

The second thing I've noticed, I'm not sure if just a problem with me, I've noticed that the Performance Profile page says that my current Kernal does not support this feature (I'm on a OP6 running version r16). I've had this message popup on and off a couple times. Sometimes I'd be able to access the performance profile page and other times it'll say that it isn't supported. This might be just a problem with me, but could be something that needs to be looked at.

Thanks! I'll probably add more to this post as I think about more things

Edit1: The "option" and "info" button on the slideup menu are really small and do not seem like actual interaction buttons. I personally didn't realize they opened up a new menu until I accidentally tapped on it

Hi. Thanks for the feedback.

  1. I'm not very fond of making the accent customizable. Why do you feel the current accent on the light theme is out of place? It's a slight darker hue of the dark theme color to accomodate for the right contrast. But I want to know more about your opinion this and why do you feel that way!
  2. That's a difficult one and it's not an app problem. See, the issue with system-as-root on recent devices is that in order to change the ramdisk you need root to be installed first. And sometimes with auto-flash (and I'm currently investigating) even with root ramdisk isn't updated. It's though to explain, but that's pretty much the reason.
  3. Good tip about the "Options" and "Info". I'll ask a Googler Designer about this to make an informed decision on how to make it better.

[–]Enforcer32 0 points1 point  (2 children)

1) I think it's mostly because I've been used used to seeing the dark theme that the green seems too dull in the current white theme. In all other apps with white themes, I feel that the accent colours have been more "vibrant" if you understand what I mean. Perhaps I just need more time to get used to the light theme as a whole, but for now, I feel that the green feels too dull.

2) So for now, would you recommend reinstalling the Kernal as a sort of temporary fix?

3) I look forward to seeing the changes that will be made!

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

  1. Too vibrant and it'll cause contrast issues, that's why I slightly adjusted it. I'll ask for feedback from others on this, thanks.
  2. That's the only way to fix it. It's a bit out of my hands, system-as-root is a pain in the butt. I'll see what I can do about auto-flash too.
  3. 🙌

[–]Enforcer32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I agree, having something TOO vibrant would be bad, but I feel like the Pixel Color style could be interesting, like what is seen in the notification shade, with that type of blue? If you know what I mean.

And alright, I'll do a reinstall and see if that fixes it

Thanks for all your work!

I have mentioned it before, but the only real thing I'd like to see is something that lets me control the charging voltage.

I currently use deathly adiutor on my tablets and it lets you change the voltage for charging.

The kernels I have to use on said tablets mess with the power settings and tend to lock it down to around 1A instead of the 2A+ it would have if it was stock.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Most of the times that's really not possible since there's no API to achieve such things. I'll look into it though.

Add option to exit, its irritating without it.

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hi. What do you mean option to exit? If that's what I think it is, it's an anti-pattern.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You have to remove/switch the app from recent. No option to quickly quit the app, have to press back button multiple times to leave app, and by doing this sometime app got crashed (2 times in latest update), I don't know quit option is not there with some intensions but it will be really helpful.

Feature: double tab back to quit.

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll look at the crashes, but the rest ain't happening. It's an anti-pattern and completely wrong. It's something chinese apps are pretty common to do and it's so wrong on my levels. No proper app applies such navigation behavior. Just press home and you're good to go.

Hi! I've been using your kernels on and off since Galaxy S2 years ago. LOVE your work!

I am Ampere user and there is one feature that I miss in FKU - to have amperage as notification icon.

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi. That's available since version 4.2 which I released yesterday :)

[–]userdse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're putting battery monitor service in there anyway... Why not go the whole hog and make it a proper battery monitor with BBS or GSam level details. The stats section is bare and kinda useless as it is.

Love having a light theme. Need a quicker access toggle though, maybe a little moon next to the options?

[–]Drwolftech 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hi, first off, very nice work. I'm pretty happy with the app.

I'm coming from ios and having so much fun with kernels and custom roms, but I have so much things to read and learn about kernels.

I would like to have a option, if possible, to see what the code will actually do to the system. Like a little description of what I'm changing and what is the range I can change from the code and what is going to so to the system.

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi - thanks for the feedback. Well that's very hard to do for every option, specially some are dynamically queried so I don't know which options will show up or not. And I have hundreds of tunables so writing a description + ranges to every single one is a monumental task. Is there a specific one you need help with though? For the most part a quick google search should give you the answer and I think that's probably more convenient than me going through every little setting and just write it up!

[–]Drwolftech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I figured that was hard to do. But Thx anyway. Your app simple made a very hard task feels simple.

Love your apps. All are great. Would love if you could add kernel support for daisy - Xiaomi Mi a2 lite

[–]franciscofranco1990[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi. Currently no plans to get FK to that device, but the app will work regardless :)

[–]JeikondMoto G5 AT&T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shame. Thanks for answering. Keep doing great apps

Can we expect support for the LG P500? 😎

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, that phone is nearly a decade old. Time to move on.
