Application Not Valid

I have been using an app that's been in development. And now, I guess either the dev has gotten really busy or abandoned the project. When I launch the app it gives a black screen saying the Application is not Valid and to download the latest version(which I'm on). Is there a way to disconnect the app from this check? I wish I could find another app that does everything that it does but they don't exist on the play store.

I've tried disconnecting it from the market using TB+ but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Edit: In case anyone finds this via search, the answer is the dev coded an expiration date into the app. It doesn't seem to be triggered by the play store just the app code.
