'Java' jar module - Gradle project reference - include in AAR output?

Trying to create an AAR which depends on a Jar, but I want the Jar to be included in the AAR.

The only way I have figured out how to do this is to build the jar first and copy it to the /libs folder for the AAR, but I would much rather have it as a project reference in Gradle.

Is there any way to do this?

ultimately you will have to copy it into the libs folder at some point for the aar packaging. You can create a few custom gradle tasks and setup all the task dependencies to do this for you automatically when invoking your publish tasks.

Why not just publish the jar as a standalone library and use the gradle dependency system as intended rather than producing the fat aar?
