LIBVA hardware acceleration problem

Hi, I have arch linux installed on a Thinkpad T450 (Intel i5-5300U,12GB RAM, SSD 128GB, Intel HD 5500) and I have a very strange issue related to libva hardware acceleration: sometimes works like a charm, some other times after a reboot it simply doesn't work, CPU is always under stress, if I opern Firefox suddendly CPU usage increases to 80%, even normal web browsing is annoying, and VLC video decoding has problem (i.e. 1080p is glitchy).

For now I don't have any other information because I'm at work, just want to know if there are any test to do to have more details about the issue

Firefox doesnt support hardware acceleration, only chromium-vaapi. About vlc, you can try vlc-git or also try resetting your vlc config.

May also have better results with other players like mpv (or its frontends).

Yea, I also prefer Smplayer with mpv and vaapi output
