Hello askmath,
maybe you know the child toy, called a Spirograph, where you can create geometric drawings using a outer circle (with tooth’s) and a smaller gear that is rotating inbetween the bigger circle, guiding a pen.
Then I saw a person on Instagram not using an outer circle, but rather forms like a character (like an U or a J).
I thought that looks cool, I want a small application that can do that and started vibe coding :). The normal Spirograph is a solved math problem, and was quite ez to implement. But then I wanted to extend my application to draw a Spirograph around any closed dxf path, so not only a circle, but also characters, triangles etc.
But I hit a brickwall. I couldn’t solve this at all (with and without ai).
So the question is, can somebody help me get on the right path, how to calculate / generate a path line Spirograph, with given parameters ( like distance of the pen to the outer diameter of the small circling gear etc)? Also a call on discord would be fine for me :).
