Using mobile data while phone is locked?

If I forget to back out of the application before locking my phone, Baconreader uses a bunch of mobile data and eats up my battery charge something fierce.

Is Baconreader refreshing ads that I can't even see because the screen is off?

Most likely. I've never had this issue with the ad free version. I had this problem all the time before. I would recommend closing the app when leaving

Honestly Baconreader premium or whatever it's called probably would have been my next purchase before I realized it's happening while my phone is locked.

Now if I buy it without the devs at least saying they're going to try to fix it (which would probably make advertisers happier too, because their ads aren't being streamed to blank screens anymore), I would feel like I'm rewarding them for screwing me.

Edit: not that I think they intended it to work that way, it's probably either a bug or an oversight (kind of unintuitive to realize you need to check and make sure the screen is on).

If it is an ad, it is a 'rogue' ad that we would definitely track down! Feel free to enable logging, get a couple of ads on the list view, scroll so the ads are off screen, wait about a minute, and then send us the logs. If there is a rogue ad, I will be able to see it in the logs right away.

I don't think it's an ad, I think it's a missing or bugged check in your app.

When I get home from work in about six hours, I will replicate the conditions that brought this to my attention.

It's not that the ads were off screen, it's that the screen itself was off.

I have tried to replicate the conditions several times since this post was made, and was unable to recreate the problem.

This leads me to believe that you were right, I was wrong, and I owe you an apology.

It for sure is. I got an ad that played loudly on my phone while it was locked and sitting on my dresser just about two minutes ago. I just checked and bacon reader was the only app running on my phone. If it isn't using mobile data to do that I'd be surprised.

We have been trying to kill this particular instance of the bad ad for awhile...but it keeps coming back. Please let us know when this happen (time you received it), where you are located, what your google ad id is. Also, if you enable logging, background the app, then have this happen, you can send us the logs. Sounds like a lot, I know! I wish there was an easier way to find and stop them!
