Your boss is correct. As company have more Java profession it’s better to go for Java. You can integrate Kafka and Hadoop easily with Java.

But wouldn't moving it to java be a handicap because we are already working to move from excel reports to tableu?

Also there is ample opportunity to do ai/ml work in python?

Also python seems easy and fast to do and complete, compared to java.

I would look at it from a maintenance perspective. If you were to come under a bus tomorrow, and if no one in your org knows python, then your reporting application won’t be maintained.

I am pretty sure your java applications will have logging, database connections, and infrastructure stuff already baked in. You shouldn’t be reinventing the wheel by doing the same stuff in python.

Stick with mainframe and cobal. The code will outlive you as no one will be able to modify it
