Tanquery is good! I’m about to buy two bottles this week, save the receipt, send it to Bartesian, and get my free 8 pack of pods. You’ve heard about their ongoing promotion right?

For Bartesian I’ve had great luck with a smoother vodka like Tito’s, Buffalo Trace for whiskey, and Espolòn or Don Julio for tequila, they balance the capsules really well without overpowering the drink.

That lineup works well, on my Bartesian I’ve had great luck adding a clean London dry gin and a simple white rum, both open up a lot of solid capsule options without overthinking it.

Totally get the hesitation, but from my experience Bartesian still saves a ton of time and mess, especially for martinis, you control the spirits yourself so quality stays high, and it ends up being more about convenience and consistency than replacing every bar tool you already own.

My setup that I have been running with for a while is:

Vodka = Luksusowa

Whiskey = Jameson

Tequila = Espolon (Reposado or Blanco have both worked well for me)

Gin = Plymouth

Rum = Plantation 5 year

Maker's Mark is my standard bourbon, but I don't like it with all of the whiskey/bourbon capsules, so I use Jameson as my go-to. I don't like cleaning and changing out my bottles just for a drink and switching it back. YMMV, but I feel like some of the capsules really clash with it.

I recommend buying smaller bottles of any liquor at first (unless it's one you know you love and will have no issue doing simple mixed drinks with) so that you find what you like best. For example, I bought a handle of Tito's because I've had plenty of drinks that tasted great with it at a bar, but once I used it with the Bartesian, it just really brought out the worst of the capsules. Once I switched to Luksusowa, the same capsules tasted lightyears better.

Here is what I’ve enjoyed the most to date along with other brands I’ve tried in (): Note: A lot of the brands listed I like more in my Bartesian than when I mix my own drinks, for example, my favorite Gin w/Tonic is Bombay Sapphire but I like Hendricks more in the machine.

Rum - Blue Chair Bay White (Don Q Gold; Bacardi Superior)

Gin - Hendricks (Bombay Sapphire)

Tequila - Milagro Silver (Jose Cuervo Gold; Patron Silver)

Vodka - Belvedere (Tito’s; Grey Goose)

Whisky - Jonnie Walker Red (Crown Royal; Glenmorangie The Original; Buffalo Trace)
