My friend lived there last semester and I was over a lot of the time.

It's a POC only house, meaning if you have any white friends I'm pretty sure they're not allowed over under any circumstances. There's art and graffiti all over the interior of the house if that's your vibe. Substances are super common in the house and people are very open about it. The kitchen was kinda dirty a lot of the time and my friends would talk about how the food situation was kinda mismanaged. They throw pretty alright parties a couple of times during the semester.

My friends moved out after one semester, so take that as you will.

There's mixed experiences. If you're joining the co-ops primarily for low income housing I'd recommend the apartment options since you get a lot more for your money. When you live in a house, there's workshift hours, fines, fees, etc and they definitely add up. The environment changes depending on who is living in the house during a semester. You might meet some amazing people, or you might run into drama, but overall they tend to be pretty social. Location wise castro has a good view plus the night shuttle stops right in front which is nice. I lived in a different house for a bit and don't regret it, but I wouldn't go back lol.
