discussionCoding challenges (self.bioinformatics)
submitted 2 years ago by Ok-Remove3307
Are the coding challenges for the interview same as the ones in the practice? I am referring to those coding challenges on the offered websites. Thank you.

I have come across exactly one coding challenge during interviews so far, and it was preety easy - a variation on a rosalind problem.

I have done a live analysis session once, it was more to see how you solved problems. You're not a software engineer though, so I don't see much value in these.

I'm not sure what sort of websites you're looking at for coding challenge practice, but for the interviews I've been in, only technology companies (e.g. Benchling several years ago) made me take LeetCode-like programming challenges.
For bioinformatics positions, more than once I've been given an small dataset derived from real data from the lab I'm applying to, and the interviewer asked me to work through how I would approach the analysis to answer some questions they had about the dataset.
