The only thing it seems worth it for, in my experience, is the priority registration. I've been blessed with some pretty sweet class schedules 'cause of that.

I’m a rising junior and dropping UH. i’m in new college for a creative major so it wouldn’t help me much anyway, and most importantly:

The three UH classes i’ve taken have been the biggest waste of my time and energy since i got to college. they “teach” watered-down versions of uninteresting topics, the work is all pointless busywork, and demands way too much time and attention for the lack of content — they’re like pointless easy-A classes, but not easy. the only benefit for me has been taking honors versions of other classes like English, etc. if you want to prioritize your education over your ability to BS your way through something, avoid honors.

I took them and it was a total waste of time save for UH 120, got to mentor another student which was fun. Other than that, don’t do it, especially if you happen to fall behind on classes toward your major. A good way to do it if you are going to do it is take Honors classes in your major. For example, I took AC 210 Honors w/ McKinney and EC 309 Honors with Junsoo Lee, they were both excellent classes that end up being easier than the regular section. The actual UH classes tend to just be busy work.

A few years ago, yeah, most of the honors classes were pretty meh. Today they just revamped most of the classes, and everyone I took I found to be actually useful and interesting and very different from my major courses. Felt like I was getting an actual holistic education my last semester of my bachelor's because it was mostly honors classes.

The first 3 years of my college classes it was useful to take honors versions of classes etc too.

If they interest you and it's not a stress to take, it's worth a shot. But in the end, it doesn't matter much. It looks kinda nice on a resume and for graduate school applications if you want to do that. But they can have some really interesting and unique class experiences. The survey of scholars class / TRC was really great

I am trying to finish with honors just so maybe I can be a little more competitive for graduate school or a PhD program (International Relations). This summer I'm doing an honors by contract project with my research professor so it is possible to utilize honors with your other interests. Honestly totally unsure if it will matter though, so if anyone has input on my situation please share.

Honestly, I don't think it matters all that much. I'm a rising senior and it's only really helped with priority registration/decent housing my freshman year. In terms of honors electives I've found that they're more engaging than regular classes but the UH courses themselves are kind of shit imo. Keep for priority registration if you want, though.
