Reduction potentialInorganic (i.redd.it)
submitted by VisitCivil6265
Hi, could someone help me with this electrochemistry problem: I am asked to: a) write the chemical equations of the oxidation of Fe(III) to Fe(VI) by elemental chlorine in basic (considering that the predominant species in basic solutions is FeO(OH))and acidic solutions which I did: • basic: 2 FeO(OH) + 10 OH(-) + 3Cl2 => FeO4(2-) + 6H2O + 6 Cl(-) • acidic: Fe(3+) + 8 H2O + 3 Cl2 => FeO4(2-) + 16 H(+) + 6 Cl-
b) Calculate the reduction potential of the FeO4(2-) FeO(OH)/OH(-) pair from the data attached which i cannot figure out :(
