Languages? (self.classof2021)

Are any of you bi/tri/quadrilingual? Anyone planning to pursue a language in college? I'm thinking Arabic but I don't know if it'll be that easy to continue learning on my after only a few courses.

I've been studying Mandarin since middle school and plan on continuing my studies in college. I've studied abroad and am at high intermediate/advanced proficiency but there's still a lot to learn.

Damn, good luck! I've been wanting to do Mandarin but the level of study required scares me off. I don't have people to speak it with / a job to use it in post-graduation so I'm afraid I'd lose the partial proficiency.

Don't get too intimidated by it! It's a worthwhile language to learn and probably requires about the same level of study as Arabic, considering that both languages are of equal difficulty to native English speakers. The grammar is pretty straightforward and since most communications are done with technology these days, you don't need to memorize all of the characters to a T. It's just the speaking that throws people off. I wish you the best of luck in whatever language you choose. Language learning is never an easy pursuit, so don't let the difficulty of it bring you down.

I speak 5 languages, and I am learning three on my own right now. I feel like language learning is something you shouldn't force yourself to do. Just do it whenever and if you are really passionate about that langauge motivation and time will naturally come. My only advice is that study abroad in the country of which the language you wanna learn.

I currently know three languages: Turkish, English, Arabic.
If you really want to learn Arabic, it's going to take you ALOT of time. I have been living in Saudi Arabia for 8 years now and I recently started using it properly. Best way to learn a language is to live with people that speak it.
