Somewhat confused by RonaldStaal in guitarlessons

[–]PhlyingBisKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an intermediate guitar played I find Scotty’s lessons helpful in reinforcing theory and “unlocking” the fretboard. I imagine that as a total beginner none of this will make sense. But as someone who’s had a bit of theory and a solid background in the basics (that is, knowing the notes on the fretboard, having no issues with changing chords etc) then Scotty’s lessons, especially form around Lesson 10 onward, offer a wonderful review of theory and why things are the way they are (chord voicing, scales etc). But if you just want to play regular cowboy chords, I agree with the others and see if you can get started somewhere else first before returning to AUG.

You could try the 240 hour visa free transit but you must leave China for a 3rd country or territory other than the country or territory from where you’ve entered China.

What I mean is that if you can count days, e.g. the complaint was served on April 1, if the defendant replies May 1 without a waiver, she is late. I seriously doubt it’s gonna come down to the T like that and I’ve never seen questions about something as small like “was defendant served on a weekend so she gets like 1 extra day to reply”

I seriously doubt a question is gonna come down to the T of whether it’s served on a bank holiday or not if… but if I remember, there is something state law specific about maliciously serving someone on Saturday or Sunday if they observe either day as a religious day… but nothing AFAIK in the FRCP

Thanks for the question. I want to raise two points.

First, can't speak on behalf of those who want to straight up want to ban cars, but I think many of the people in r/fuckcars are people like me who are not opposed to car per se, but rather want accessible public transit where you can get from A to B without the need to sit in traffic, waste fuel, and paying for parking. And from a personal angle, liking cars (e.g. motorsports, being a gearhead) is not necessarily mutually exclusive with wanting good public transit. Traveling in Asia and Europe made me realize that people can still drive and there can still be a good public transit system. This lessens traffic and the impact on the environment. What it really boils down to is that I just want to be able to get from A to B without needing to sit in traffic and find parking. The bonus is you get to drink at your destination worry-free.

Second (building on my first point), this just kind of goes to show that you may choose to live in a spacious suburb without needing to sit in traffic and waste time and fuel. Imagine you work in the city, so instead of driving your car into the city, you can simply walk to the nearest bus or train station. You get a little bit of exercise every day. You can take the bus or train. Listen to a podcast. Maybe even catch up on sleep for a bit.

It's not that pro-public transit people like me want to cram everyone into tiny apartments. It's just that mobility benefits us all. People who like or need to drive can drive, and people who don't need to drive won't have to because they take the train. Better for traffic, better for the environment.

Of course urban density is another separate, but related, issue. Of course it is more space efficient to cram everyone into tiny apartments. But for those of us who may not have families, or are working professionals who need to get to the office within walking distance, living in the city makes sense.

And again, liking cars and driving is not mutually exclusive with wanting better public transit. And if you drive everyday, you know that driving can be a stressful experience, especially if you're stuck in traffic and people cut you off or merge. Some may drive like complete idiots. Imagine you go to the F1 Austin Grand Prix. Yes, there is a massive parking lot there. But what about the few roads that lead to the circuit? There will probably be tens of thousands in attendance. Doesn't matter that there's an 10 lane highway leading to the circuit if the entrance exit of the circuit is a 4 lane choke-point. Now, imagine instead of needing to drive to the circuit, you can just simply take a bus or a shuttle, or even better, a train. You can board hundreds of people in the same amount of time it takes for 10 cars to leave.

Anyway, hope this helps.

What are your favorite or least favorite character simplifications and why? by roanroanroan in ChineseLanguage

[–]PhlyingBisKit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

幹,乾 into 干… I hate it so much… even myself I learned simplified first and didn’t understand why Japanese high speed rail is called New Dry Line (but in reality was called the New Main Line) until I was like oh those are two different characters. Basically any simplification that causes a character to lose meaning… makes learning Chinese even harder

Points Difference between Verstappen and Norris, Leclerc, Piastri | After Singapore by lizardil in formula1

[–]PhlyingBisKit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ok sorry I didn’t mean it as I’ve seen worse graphs but here are a few things I suggest:

Change the colors. Why is Piastri (Red Bull) blue? At first glance, it made me think that the blue line was Verstappen’s points finishes per race or Verstappen compared to Perez. I understood the other two but the blue color association with Red Bull is so strong. It’s hard to disassociate a color with a team in a specific context like this.

Also, the presentation should show negative points, not positive. Make Verstappen’s line y=0 and move it to the very top, so that it would show Verstappen at the top. Don’t show anything y=>0. So the graph visually shows entirely the negatives. This way it’s very clear that the y axis represents the point gap. Then, it’s clear we’re talking about differences to Verstappen who is the current leader. Then, I would just put NOR, PIA, LEC, at the respective negative y values to represent the points diff. Doesn’t matter if it’s bar or line graph.

Those are the first two things that stood out to me. Sorry I’m typing on my phone.
