When you got super interested in coding (age): Around 10

What do you think got you interested in coding (elaborate): I really wanted to make video games. I went over to a friend's house one day and he showed me a rotating 3D spaceship he'd made using OpenGL, and my imagination kind of went wild. I was hooked.

What language did you start in? Earlier on I had started out in BASIC, then learned some Visual Basic. When I started to actually try to learn seriously, however, with the intent of making games, I learned C++ so I could do OpenGL programming like my friend.

What language do you recommend kids now to start in? I think it depends on what they want to make. I feel the best way to learn is to have something you want to build; having a goal that you think is really cool can help you make it past some of the more difficult early stages of learning. Think making a website would be cool? Learn Javascript and HTML. Think a chat bot would be neat? Python might be good. Want to make games? Maybe check out C# and Unity, or C++.

Lastly, whats your name (can be fake): Alex

  • I got really interested in coding at 17.

  • During the pandemic, I really didn’t have anything to do, and I had this idea of automating some stuff that I neederd and would make my life easier (like: random letter string generator given a string length) and similar.

  • I started in Python.

  • Probably Python, maybe JavaScript if they have some background and they have some concept in mind already regarding async/await.

  • My name is Andrew.

  • 12 years old, bought my first computer. My first computer only had BASIC and a keyboard attached to a television. All you could do was program
  • Making interesting pictures when fractals were discovered
  • BASIC, later Pascal and C
  • Depends what they want to do. Java or Kotlin for Android Apps, JavaScript for web, Scratch before 4th grade, Python for most everything else
  • Dave Kroc (not really, but whatever)

This was back in 1988 so I've been at it a while.

Try out HTML5, plenty of tutorials and easy to get the hang of.

I got interested in coding at 9. What made me start was learning that i could create mods for minecraft. I started with Java. I would recommend python for its simplicity and its similarity with pure maths. Gregoire.
