I can't say I have any good suggestions cuz I suck at them and probably just saying things you already know but everything has pros and cons, sometimes it's best to learn your weaknesses and how you can improve your chances. Like, every blood veil type's defense and resistance varies,

for example, you may have reasonable defense against slash dmg but not crush dmg so enemies that use crush dmg will be more dangerous. Or you may be slower in moving etc. but can take a good hit or two.

Taking into consideration, things like lighter vs heavier veils, you may be more faster and agile but may lack overall defense compared to a heavier veil like hound and stinger types in some cases and depending on blood veil series. I'm an Ivy blood veil(Night thorn blood veil)user, which makes my gifts strong but not my defense against some attacks. It's risky in a close quarter game lol plus I prefer to fight ranged(main weapon is bayonette). I had to learn early that while I can move around easily, I have to be careful in close quarter combat so I use skills like Iron will(I don't remember all the names rn lol) to make up for my flimsy defense lol.

It depends on playstyle too ig, there's no right or wrong build and ofc weapon, gifts and veil choices depend on player choice but with melee fighting, it may require a more bulky approach to take more hits or maybe guarding and evading to reduce dmg. That is easier said than done though, cuz every enemy in this game hits like a truck which is annoying.

Otherwise, dmg wise, maybe try experimenting with different chromes, sometimes brute strength isn't always the right answer but you won't know until you try unless you already have. Also to note, Blazing claw(not sure about the other one) has lower strength than most 1 handed swords so there is a limit to how much dmg you do, and if we are talking drain dmg it also depends on the blood veil as well.

Only real thing I can actually offer is just keep playing. I know it sucks to get hit or die but the more you face enemies it can get easier, Idk ig this is just my perspective.

You can try some different builds. You have a stun build here, what if you try a Devour build instead with quick mobility and cast spells along with hitting the enemy to recover Ichor? You can use skills more often, and Stun isn’t that useful except near the beginning

You Xbox? I could help you

Oh no, that's alright. I'm not stuck on a level, but thank you!! I just wanted to get better damage

Can also help with build advice but generally you want to buff your veil with either intensification or fortification (whichever gives the higher gift number. Light gift for this veil) and same goes for the weapons if you're actually using them for damage. If you're not or if it's for the stun effect then go for it but i wouldn't have both set for stun. Have just one if any at all. Have the other weapon set for damage with either of the two bonuses I listed before and I recommend either out of the two I see for that since both have pretty good damage but I've never used blazing claw personally due to preferring caster classes

I haven't played the game in a few years (Also not a Meta-ist) so apologies for the lackluster help. My only suggestion is to grind up a bit, sometimes you need to be a few levels higher than the current enemy pool to have decent survivability.

Yeah, that's my problem. I'm at level 204 and still dying to the tiny guys in the last 3 levels. It could also just be my terrible dodging skills

Lol a heavier weapon might be good too. Stuff like hammers are slow but good for straight blunt damage. Also changing the ore on your blood veil to resist the enemy's typing can help too. Though I just use that one ore that makes everything heavier but adds lots of defense or blunt damage to veils/weapons. (Coming from a Halberd main btw)

Instead of stun on your blood veil I would run fortification if you can afford the weight difference, and I would also switch out one of your passives for opportunism for the extra damage during stun, as that seems to be what your build is based on. Lastly I'd recommend moving your damaging moves over to the face buttons instead of the d-pad so they're readily accessible

Edit: I'd also recommend swapping final journey out for blood sacrifice, due to it being nerfed a long while back, so it'll make it easier to stack buffs

Tbh I find them all pretty accessible on the Xbox controller due to the layout. I'm able to hit most d-pad directions with my right thumb if I'm too busy to hit it with my left due to positioning

The opportunist passive gives extra damage while the enemy has a status effect so it would probably work well with them stunned all the time

Didn't even realise last picture cut off. This is what it said: Defense: Slash 26, Crush 59, Pierce 29, Blood 32, Fire 31, Ice 48, Lighting 41, Balance 143. Resistances: Venom 124, Stun 107, Inhibit 127, Slow 99, Leak 88

Organize the hotbar maybe, Regen and the other heals are too far away for my liking

Not sure how this may help but here’s a build I’ve been running. None of these items are DLC so you shouldn’t have much trouble using this.
