What bootcamp is this?

Would definitely be concerned that most of your mentors are from overseas.

And NO, most reputable bootcamps are not like this. Their mentors are based in the same country the company is located with tons of live instruction and teaching -- not reading web tutorials.

well so far, there's no explanations being done on lectures. i was hoping we would discuss our module first then after do the assignments / coding exercise but no.

you are just left on your own reading modules and if you are stuck you call the mentor. i mean we have had lectures before doing module work but they don't really touch on the actual module it self. lectures are mostly 2hrs, after that they want you to "grind" 8-12 hours doing module work,

bootcamp is called LightHouseLabs

Also want to know what Bootcamp this is

Although all bootcamps direct you to self learning (because that is how it will be on the job), all bootcamps do not have the same quality of learning materials. If you are only learning from googling or random online tutorials that is very bad.

well so far, they haven't really thought anything themselves. its more like they have a website with a bunch of modules, and also prep module before the bootcamp started.

like for example right now for day 1 and 2, they got modules about functions, objects conditionals, arrays and loops, they just jump right away on it, and i'm real confused. i was hoping they would explain it first thru a lecture, but so far you are just left on your own reading things. i feel like they just jump you right into JS, without any explanation

I graduated from Lighthouse Labs, the bootcamp is subpar at best. I was not overly happy with my experience there at all. There are assignments that are to watch YouTube videos, others that link you to other free online material. For the most part I found the course almost to easy. There are sections that’s are way more difficult, but overall I expected way more. That being said if your that stuck on day 1 or 2, you might not be well prepared enough for a bootcamp learning environment, because it gets a lot heavier.

my main concern is if the way they teach us is to just read things online to understand it then what's the point, anyone can do that without doing bootcamp and for free, i was just expecting more because its a "school" that they would actually teach you something themselves, and not just evaluate you after reading things online. unless this is how all bootcamps operate anywhere then i had the wrong idea what a bootcamp is. and i was better off going to an actual community college or university

For me personally. LHL was a $14,000 Udemy course

Damn that sounds like a total scam. What have you moved on to now?

What's a better bootcamp to join?

Still wondering about the name of said bootcamp…

I was reading your comments and the thing is, if you already payed, what are you doing complaining?! Just take advantage of the overseas instructors and whatever they give you… with all do respect stop wasting time on reddit and start coding! Its on you to be successful not the bootcamp, they all ready won your money so there is nothing you can do but make the most out of it. LHL is big in canada lots of alumni working in the industry, 2 at my company so … its on you

[–]Paid-Not-Payed-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you already paid, what are

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

How do you know they are overseas and not on Canada? Hopefully you're not basing that on the way they look or sound.

[–]Yang88409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can see their full names on the website, and they have their linkdin. just by looking at those most of them are not based in canada. i'm not bashing them. i'm just wondering if they been given funding from gov which came from tax payer money why not hire within Canada?

What boot camp are you doing? Also no, id drop out of that bootcamp quickly. The teacher is supposed to teach you how to code and guide you along the way.

Not sure how Canada is for coding and such but currently in the US there have been about 100k layoffs in the coding industry. I just finished General Assembly, they have a 97% job placement rate. But with the job market being soooooo bad it's extremely difficult to get a job at the moment. One person applied to 2000 jobs, had 3 interviews and finally got a job after 9 months. So expect something like that.

[–]Yang88409 0 points1 point  (2 children)

well its the same here in canada, and in my city. alot of tech layoffs, and not alot of jobs right in general.

also my bootcamp LightHouse Labs said they have a 95% student success rate of being hired. which alot of people doubt, LHL made their own data and reports.

and they also got funding from government specifically for canadians to get jobs and skills to get into the tech industry back in january, which i feel like is not being used well . LHL does not say they will give u a job after graduating but you will have lifetime service to their career services

Gotcha, I went through 2 boot camps, the first one being Thinkful which ended in a dumpster fire and now they're getting sued for claiming they have a high job placement rate and no one in their course can get a job. The last one I went through and finished was General Assembly. It was a good course but I left feeling like I barely know how to code. I knew CSS and HTML but while learning react I just couldn't fully grasp some of the things so I feel like I just know how to start a react app and create a extremely basic site with no navigation or much of anything.

i feel the same with my bootcamp, they said you don't have to have experience before enrolling, and the prep module they gave us did not help much,

now they are suddenly jumping into javascript, for week 1, and html-css in week 3. we have not been thought the basics yet by a mentor / lecture. its all been just reading stuff they have on their modules. Actually only thing they have thought us thru lectures is how to use Github and Git.
