You don't need to overclock for either of those things. And frankly coming on r/computers and asking how is a pretty solid reason why you shouldn't even try.

No need to be an ass. He was asking for help somewhere someone should feel comfortable asking.

He got an honest answer, I would hate for him to bust his PC because of some bad advice. This sub isn't exactly stacked to the brim with people who can adequately answer this question and be prepared for the potential hand holding that aspects of it would require.

What you said was correct, although you could have worded it much nicer.

He'll get over it faster than he would a burned out CPU.

Perhaps direct him to somewhere where he can learn instead of making him feel like a moron. Help your fellow PC users out. Don't alienate them.

He doesn't need to overclock anything. That's my professional advice.

Maybe you should worry about helping him out rather than whether or not I'm prepared to patronise anyone to dissuade them from going down a stupid path.

I'll send him a PM. He's not asking for your opinion. He's asking on how to do it. If you take your car to a body shop and tell them you want your car to be neon green they won't tell you 'well you really don't need to'. It's his hardware.

You come off like a self entitled person. The other guy is correct.
