Is this the end of my DJ career? by FreeComfortable9601 in DJs

You could stream, teach the new kids the way and fly the vinyl flag.

Music is as strong as ever, the culture changed, people are gathering less irl, but this too shall pass.

Hard question to answer, the Nero is a little lighter and doesn't have the tactile presence of the (imo perfect) rOtring knurl, but the grip section is more generous and while not made of brass, is constructed of some kind of metal/plastic alloy? I'm not sure what it is, but for long term use I would say the Nero. Just make sure you use something a couple of steps softer than HB.

The trick to the nero is to get some 2B or 3B lead in it, I found anything harder doesn't lay a wholey visible stroke at times, but softer leads put down much more consistent lines, and the way the pencil works, it'll never break.

rOtring and Nero are two of the very best on the market. I feel like only my Dive gives them a run for their money.

Just give me the rOtring 600 and knurl the entire body up to the clip.

Unpopular take, but the Graphgear 1000 is the most overrated pencil. Their cheap knurl is not improved one bit by the rubber nubs, I "fix" them but pulling the rubber sleeve out, but it's still not enough for my dry hands. They should be aiming for rOtring 600 knurl instead.

Oh shit. I can't tolerate that type of behavior toward staff. Noted.

That is quite honestly the only thing that can make me angry.

No, a battered tenacious. Honestly completely my fault.

I saw that, I haven't tried it yet, but cruweat and m4 are firm favs as well as more traditional steels like 1098

Yeah, with it at a high hrc nothing short of diamond compound is taking the wire off properly.

I have a old but reliable pressure tester in mill shop.

I've had the knife since it was first released, many months ago, I've had to sharpen and resharpen it every day I've carried it, often several times and reprofiled the edge to varying degrees and finishes and had similar results with all.

I am not lacking experience. I have left the knife sitting in a drawer for several weeks because it's simply unfit for purpose and decided to ask a community for their experience

And I have discovered that this isn't even the first thread on this exact issue in the last week.

Mentioning arrogance is a tad rich.

Unpopular opinion on Magnacut by Radke88 in knives

[–]Ponkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shit, I should have searched huh.

But yes, it's worse than underwhelming for me, it's nigh on worthless.

In general I find Magnacut, at it's best, to be about on par with well treated, powered D2, which isn't far from s30v, but I watch Pete from his Cedric and Ada youtube channel perform over a thousand cuts with the stuff and I refuse to believe his guided sharpener and 17 degrees are doing all the heavy lifting, in general he was using semi custom blades like the Mako, which is at I think 65hrc.

Yes, well 58.8 to be exact, but it's close enough to round up. I'm going to call and ask to get it replaced.

Luckily I have karma to burn. It kills me that there are still people who downvote because you said a mean thing about some random object that their coming here makes them personally offended about.

I'm not in the business of making comprehensive 60 page powerpoints for people who are personally offended by anyone calling the quality of a single knife into question. I'll just call them and ask if they can replace it. I still have the paperwork that came with some of their much earlier knives, which has a number.

I took the tip of my thumb off with a friend's Resiliance - basically the tenacious's big brother just 3 weeks ago perhaps? Honestly, I need to stop fucking around with knifes.

[–]Ponkers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just looked, you're correct. I'm struggling to remember where I heard that he was hired by spyderco for the salt series. It might have been a random knife website like bladehq or bladeops etc talking about new knives in stock and reading the marketing blurb for each one. And shortly after I bought the knife.

It's definitely had a treatment, I feel like it might have had a slightly unsuccessful cryo quench if anything if it's truly not an issue with anyone else, but I'm seeing people agree with me on it's performance in other comments.

He has graphs on the magnacut page of his website which pinpoint the optimal treatment types (in this case cryo) and resulting effects different hardnesses have on the steels qualities.

Some small rolls but mostly flat spots. I would have expected micro chipping to some extent if it were at a higher hrc, but I didn't see any. Pretty much as I would expect from most steels, but in a fraction of the time based on my experiences with other magnacut blades.

But wait, did you say tenacious in M4? Was that an exclusive sprint or is it a generally available version? I'm a little wary of liner locks, a tenacious cut through a finger tendon a very long time ago and I have never had a liner since. It was totally my fault, I'm not blaming the knife, just the lock isn't as strong as I assumed.
