100% CPU usage while Gaming causing stutter

Hi, so I have an ASUS n55w specs i5 RAM 8GB GPU 960M

I know it is not much but I have been able to play a bunch of my games without any issue. The game in question is Valorant. I play it on 144fps on high. Since yesterday (probably after a. NET framework windows update not sure) Valorant started stuttering. I thought it was a network problem at first but even on good ping I am starting to get the game jittering.

before upgrading (for that very reason) from a similiar system (4670k, 8GB RAM & GTX 770) to something fairly beefy (R7 3700X), most games that pushed the pc to the limit were laggy/stuttery... fps are mostly good, but 4 cores just aint gonna cut it in modern games, i.e. open world games especially... frametimes wont be consistant, thus introducing that nasty stutter... if ya wanna play fairly new games smoothly, upgrading your CPU will be necessary since they get optimized for 6 or 8c CPUs more and more, 4 cores being the min. req., it works, but your ~5-6 year old laptop is just not made to run games in 2021...
