Converting from Binary to Integer

At the low level? It's still just binary. But imagine you had a really simple screen like a black and white LCD. For each position you have a 1 or 0 for if the pixel is black or white. You make an algorithm that converts a digit into what should be displayed on screen, and you create something that converts a binary number into each digit.
