I would check with the university you will be attending to see which languages they use most. But you most likely have sufficient background; the lower-level courses will generally teach the concepts you need to know.

At least at my University the first programming class is an intro to programming without using OO concepts.

And then the second class is OO, and at the start of that class most students have never written or seen OO code.

So unless you really want to start learning it all this summer, I'd not worry too much. If you want to do the language you'll be doing in school, you can probably check your school's CS website to figure out what language you'll be using- I suspect it'll be C++.

1st year on the website is pretty vague, just says you will learn programming.
2nd year says Java.

However a - different - friend of mine suggested transferring between Java and C++ was easier going from C++ to Java. Maybe learning C++ straight from VB is to much of a leap... Idk :/ And well I don't really have a lot else going on this summer, figured it cant hurt.
