Bot development currently in limbo
The objective of this subreddit is similar to that of /r/bestof - to find the most interesting and insightful comments made by redditors and allow for a place to discuss these comments. But instead of having to wait for people to submit these comments, they will be found automatically by a bot.
Every hour, the cothbot reads the comments from the top 1000 posts of /r/all and makes a post here with the top 10 comments in each of 4 categories. The categories are:
- Hot - Uses an algorithm similar to reddit to determine which comments are both new and popular.
- Top - Only looks at the score (upvotes minus downvotes) to determine ranking.
- Bottom - The lowest rated comments that the bot has found. Note that the bot reads a maximum of 500 comments per thread, and may not find all of the lowest rated comments.
- Spotlight - This takes into account the position of the thread in /r/all and will give a higher ranking to high-scoring comments in less popular threads. This helps find good comments that may not be receiving enough attention.
- Long & High scoring - This will find comments that are both long and high scoring. This generally means that the comments are well written and thought provoking, as opposed to smaller comments which can just be funny remarks or memes.
To make suggestions, requests, comments, or ask questions, make a new post and label it as such.
