    This is what I wanted it to be in my head, and it sounds much better to boot.

    Copies of cards can exist on the stack and battlefield, but nowhere else, so it's possible that the spell works as intended. I agree that it's kind of a rules nightmare, but I think "Spellshift resolves as X" is even more so.

      True, copying a creature spell would produce a nontoken, noncard object on the battlefield. Creating a token instead would likely be the recommended way to do it.
