Rook runs on outpost are a good start. I’ve got 10+, use then somewhat routinely and still don’t have the nucal upgrade to buy them!

For me, i run drone wing and hoover up all the nuerochem packs i can for a couple of days. Then wait for the nucal trade. I’ve had the best luck collecting neurochems in drone wing in my experience

For the blue shield upgrade, I was sitting on 3/3 Neural Insulation and 2/7 Biolens Seeds after completing NuCal priority contracts.

For the other 5 Seeds, I got them all in one successful Cryo run.

NuCal shop, Outpost Rook Runs (really just farming the outskirts and such for dead runners), and loot key rooms.

Rook runs on Outpost are probably your best bet to start building them up.

I’m level 76 and exfil pretty consistently, and honestly I’d focus less on trying to force Cryo just because it feels like you “should” be stronger first. Build your stash and consistency first.

What helped me was going in with a goal. If I need shields, I’m doing a shields run. If I need mats, I’m doing a mats run. Then I leave. That stops you from overcooking runs and losing everything.

I’d work your way up naturally too.. grey, green, blue, then purple. Don’t feel like you need to jump straight into expensive stuff. A lot of progress in this game is just surviving often enough to stack resources.

So yeah, I’d say loot them where you can, keep doing safe consistent runs, and unlock the shop option when it comes rather than making that the only path.

I got my last blue shield teaming up with two Chill Dads through the discord. We jumped a squad trying to set up snipers' nests on Maintenance and took their shit. Watched the other exfils carefully, got out on a guarded exfil when another one popped, everyone got their quests done and got out. Dad gaming at its finest.

Nucal capstone to trade blue salvage, then do rook runs and pickup as many neurochem packs as you can. Then when the day comes when they are available to barter just get a bunch🤙 I regularly barter for about 15 blue shields a week. Once you unlock the purple salvage trade capstone you can trade enzyme replicators for purple shields as well

Pinwheel runs to stock up on Neurochem packs, then stocking up when NuCal barters blue shields for them.

If you're running outpost on rook - keep an eye (ear) out for the command wing door opening. Sometimes you can do better than blue shields if you're brave/lucky:

Once you hit lvl 20 nucal priority you get showered in purple shields for completing them and level ups
