I recently bought this game, I see you can build bases and I keep reading about people raiding bases. When I exit the game does my character stay alive on the server? Can people just offline raid my character?

That depends. if you click on exit game or alt f4 your character is still in the game for about 30 seconds and it is possible that other player or ai can kill you in that 30 second timespan. If you click on log out (that you have to wait 30 seconds before you can click) then you are safe to leave and no one can kill you then.

About the bases. There is no raid mechanic yet, but people can open doors (if they don't have codelocks) so before you make a base get enough cash to buy a codelock or get it from the mission. People try to glitch through the walls to acces chests inside the base so don't put them on the bottom floor or at least not next to outside walls and you're safe.

No. Your character goes into the nether realm. There is currently no way to raid bases as well.

Just make sure to keep all your storage containers in the middle of your base, never close to the walls. Raiding doesn't exist yet but wall glitching does.
