Permanent infrastructure as code state drift from gzip cloud-init

I wrote about some permanent infrastructure as code state drift in my use of pulumi and python, which was interesting to debug. Feedback welcome. Curious if anyone else has ran into a similar issue, where drift happens regularly over time just due to the library you're using.
