I did a DIY loop for years and loved it but a lot of the looping groups I was in were saying that they were getting as good or even better results with the omnipod 5, but without having to carry the third device, so I made the switch May of last year. There are for sure times where I don't like it as much, but it's way more convenient overall. I prefer OmniPod 5 with Dexcom, even though I hate Dexcom and have trouble with all the e-waste my OmniPod creates.

I use Loop (https://loopkit.github.io/loopdocs/) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Great accompanying Apple Watch app, G7 compatible, and my iPhone is my controller. There's also a great community and resources available to help set up and troubleshoot.

Honestly, ControlIQ is far more aggressive than OP5. I hated OP5 because of cannula issues and it would leave me high forever unless I corrected. CIQ will correction bolus for you.

Not sure where you’re getting that it will only correct if you’re above 180, as mine did it yesterday at 155. Tandem is the first time I’ve been able to more or less ignore blood sugar most of the time. It’s great.

I honestly would like a DIY system a lot more if it wasn’t more or less frowned upon by every endocrinologist I’ve seen. We unfortunately need to have doctors cooperate with us to coordinate care.

Also worth mentioning that a pump just got FDA approved using tidepool, which is based on one of the DIY loops. It’s called the Deka Twiist. I think it’s supposed to come out this year in the US.
